Passive skill inheritance calculator

Enter the passive skills on both parents and the ones you want on the child. You get the chance per egg and how many eggs, one Cake each, to plan for.

Parent A passives
Parent B passives
Passives you want on the child

Pool: 0 distinct passives across both parents.

Other passives allowed on the child

Chance per egg

Add each parent's passives, then pick the ones you want on the child.

How the odds are calculated

The game pools every distinct passive on both parents and rolls how many to take: one (40%), two (30%), three (20%) or four (10%), capped by the pool size. It picks that many from the pool at random, then adds none (40%), one (30%), two (20%) or three (10%) random passives, up to the limit of four. The calculator adds up every way an egg can end with all the passives you want and no more than the others you allow.

It assumes a regular Cake. The newer cakes, such as the Special Cake, change the odds and are not modeled. The mechanics were reverse-engineered from the game code by /u/mgxts and implemented in PalCalc, which this site's data also comes from.

See every passive's tier and effect in the passive skills list.

Passive inheritance questions

What are the odds of getting four passives from breeding?

When the two parents carry exactly the four passives you want and nothing else, each egg has a 10% chance to get all four. That takes 22 eggs for a 90% chance of at least one.

Why do extra passives on the parents lower the odds?

Inherited passives are picked at random from every distinct passive both parents carry. Wanting two passives from a pool of exactly those two gives 24% per egg with no other passives allowed; with two unwanted passives also in the pool it drops to 2%.

What does allowing other passives do?

It counts eggs that have every passive you want plus up to that many others, inherited or random, as a success. Wanting two passives from a pool of exactly those two goes from 24% per egg with none allowed to 60% with up to two allowed. A pal can hold at most four passives.

How many cakes do I need?

One Cake makes one egg, so the egg counts for 50%, 90% and 99% are also the number of Cakes to plan for. Each egg is an independent roll, so there is never a guarantee.

Which cake does the calculator assume?

The regular Cake. The newer cakes, such as the Special Cake, change the odds and are not modeled here.
