How breeding works in Palworld
The game checks three rules in order. The calculator applies them to all 44,851 possible pairs.
- Rule 1
Same species, same pal
Two parents of the same species always hatch that species. It is the only way to get most legendaries once you have caught a pair.
- Rule 2
Special pairs come next
136 specific pairs ignore the average and always hatch a set pal, such as most element variants. See every special combo.
- Rule 3
Otherwise, average the breeding power
Every pal has a hidden breeding power, and lower numbers usually mean rarer pals. Lamball (3050) and Cattiva (2760) average to 2905, and the closest pal to that is Daedream (2910). Legendaries and special-pair children are never picked this way.

Breeding questions
How does breeding work in Palworld?
Every pal has a hidden breeding power. When two different pals breed, the game averages their breeding power (rounding up) and hatches the pal whose own breeding power is closest to that average. Two pals of the same species always hatch that species, and a list of special pairs overrides the average entirely.
Does gender matter when breeding?
You always need one male and one female on the Breeding Farm, but for almost every pair it doesn't matter which parent is which. The one exception in the current data is Katress and Wixen, whose child depends on which of the two is the female.
Why can't I breed Jetragon, Orserk or other legendaries from other pals?
Legendary pals and a few others are excluded from the breeding formula. Most of them can only come from two parents of the same species, so you need to catch two (one male, one female) and breed them together.
How many special breeding combos are there?
There are 136 special parent pairs in the current game data. They always produce their listed child, ignoring the breeding power average. The full list is on the unique breeding combos page.
Is this calculator up to date?
The breeding table is extracted from Palworld 1.0 game files and every one of the 44,851 possible parent pairs is checked against it whenever the data is updated.
